DIRECTIVE 8020

To launch the second season of the award-winning Dark Pictures Anthology, we worked with Supermassive to produce a campaign which would excite fans and pique the interest of new fans. It was a bold new direction for the franchise as we took the leap that all good horror franchises do: into space. Major Hollywood star Lashana Lynch was our lead.

Announce teaser

Two years after it was briefly glimpsed, Directive 8020 needed to make a lot of noise. We created a core sequence of classic horror tension, bookended with some story context and gameplay. This was premiered at Gamescom 2024 and the reaction online was stratospheric, with fans praising the graphics, atmosphere and character work. Within 48 hours we’d had more than two million views. Bespoke capture was drawn from the game’s Unreal 5 engine.

Social work

We built hype for the launch of the game in 2026 with a three-month campaign across platforms.

For Halloween, we asked fans whether they wanted a trick or a treat. They obviously wanted a trick, and so we served them this film showing a grisly death… however, part of the game’s unique gameplay is the ability to rewind time and choose a different outcome, so we gave them this treat film too.

Animatic edit

We built this proof of concept edit of the story trailer from an early cut of the game almost a year before the finished spot went live. As you can see, a lot of the structure and tone remained the same throughout, and the music was liked so much the client found extra budget to license the track.
